Wegbeschreibung/Routen|verlauf:
Short tour (below 2 hrs) through fields and woods, mostly dirt tracks, some single trail stretches. Heavy terrain when wet. Start in Kranzberg direction south to Massenhausen, cross the A9, west towards Weng and then north again along the Amper river. Upto Weng it is hilly, last part after Weng is flat. Tour is doable in wintertime. Nice combination of everything this beautiful area has to offer. Tour is especially recommended during clear weather or when there is a "Föhn" as it has some spectacular views towards the Alps.
Few biergartens on this route, only open in summertime though.
Update July 2016:
Did this tour again and made a few modifications:
1. Starting point relocated to Kranzbergersee, as a) there is good parking space there (gratis, no worries), and b) the Biergarten at the lake is there to enjoy now at end (and/or beginning) of the tour.
2. More interesting climb in woods close to Giesenbach, also better doable in summertime with lower vegetation than prior route. At WP_01 there is a nice viewpoint, at 2 o clock the church tower of Weng (which we will pass later on) is clearly visible. Further down the track at WP_02 there is another great view from one of the highest points in the region.
3. More challenging climb just after Massenhausen, known to insiders as "El Gordo". It starts at WP_02 and is a nasty little beast that will get you down to your lowest gear. It might seems easy in summer when dry, in wet conditions it is a tough cookie. At the top, turn right for small detour to a rewarding well earned view to the Allianz Arena with Alps on the background. Fantastic when there is clear weather due to a "Föhn". At WP_05 there is another nice viewpoint towards the Olympia tower worth stopping and turning round for when the weather conditions are favourable.
4. New route through the woods south-west of Hetzenhausen. The old route was not possible anymore due to new plantation protected by fences. One can still get around but needs to jump over a small stream, which the shorter legged persons in our group had difficulty with. The new route is much better doable.
5. Tour is also doable in reverse direction, this is however not recommended as you would miss going up "El Gordo".
6. I did this tour in July with short trousers. There are some sections with higher vegetation (mainly grass) but hardly any nettles. In other words, it is still very doable in summertime too.
Enjoy!
